Have you ever noticed that specific colored clothing or metals look so good on others yet you feel so weird when you try to wear them? That is because of your skin undertone, which is different from your skin color. Skin undertone can be defined as the underlying color in your complexion. For years I always felt weird when I wear Icy white, and I seldom wear silver jewelry because I look and feel so much better when I wear gold jewelry. Can you guess my skin undertone?
My skin undertone is warm. Many of you like myself have felt this way before and subconsciously have built your wardrobe around what the colors that make you look and feel flawless. Now you know it is due to the underlying colors in our complexion or our skin undertone. What’s impressive about skin undertone is that it gives you can get the idea what clothing and cosmetics would look the best on you. The colors that you select to wear is crucial in making you look attractive and your best.
There are two principal reasons why it is essential that you learn and understand your skin undertone; To be able to organize an attractive wardrobe to your liking and to avoid wasting money on unflattering clothes that you won’t wear more than once or twice. Your skin undertone can either be cool, warm, or neutral. Neutral skin undertone would mean that you can wear pretty much any colors. Cool skin undertones look best in pure white, blue-green, bright pink, burgundy, and black shades. Warm skin undertones look best in ivory, yellow-green, bright orange and dark brown colors.

How to Determine Your Skins Undertone
Step 1
Wash your face and sit for about 15 minutes. Do not add anything to it, so it doesn’t look pink from scouring it.
Step 2
Find a natural light source. You can sit by the window or go outside but avoid using the lights at home because different lightbulbs can affect your skin differently and they may give your skin a yellow or green tint which will intervene with the appearance of your under skin tone.
Step 3
The fastest way to determine your undertone is to look at the color of the veins on your wrist if you can see them.
If the veins on the inside of your wrist look green, then you likely have a warm skin tone. If the veins inside of your wrist look blue or purple, then you have a cool skin tone, and if you cannot quite determine if your veins are green or blue, then you probably have a neutral skin tone.
Step 4
In front of a mirror, hold a white piece of paper next to your face, and contrast your skin to the white paper. If your skin has a yellow tint, a blue-red or rosy tone, then you have a cool undertone. If your skin looks yellowish or pale alongside the white paper, you have a warm skin tone. If your skin looks gray, your skin seemingly has an olive complexion with a neutral undertone. If you can’t determine any of those, then you have a neutral skin tone.
Step 6
Lastly, you can use silver or gold jewelry to determine your skin undertone. The jewelry will reflect light on your skin. For this test, determines if the jewelry makes your skin look grayish or washed out, or if it enhances your complexion. If the reflection from the gold jewelry looks better on your skin, you have a warm skin tone. If your skin glows to the silver jewelry, then you have a cool skin tone. If you don’t notice a difference and both silver and gold are flattering, then you likely have a neutral skin tone.
